Welcome to the Sunstar Sub Aqua’s web site. We are a friendly BSAC SCUBA diving club based in Ipswich, Suffolk (UK).
We meet every Monday (apart from bank holidays) at 8.20pm in Fore Street Swimming Pool in Ipswich for social swimming, diver training and a lively game of Octopush and then head into the Lord Nelson at 10pm for a chat and a beer.
We dive locally off the Suffolk and Norfolk coast, which provide plenty of interesting wrecks to explore in reasonably challenging conditions using our two well equipped boats. We’ve got GPS satellite navigation and a magnetometer to find elusive wrecks and often arrange weekends in Norfolk which are great social occasions too.
For even more exotic diving we arrange club holidays all over the UK and abroad. Popular destinations have included the Hebrides, Scapa Flow, the Farne Islands (Northumberland), Thailand, Falmouth, Pembroke, Ireland, Sardinia, New Zealand, Gozo, the Red Sea and Australia.
Our training covers all BSAC levels from entry level Ocean diver and up, and will give you an internationally recognised qualification which will let you dive anywhere in the world.
Sunstar Sub Aqua was founded in 1976 as the Post Office Research Sub Aqua Club (PORSAC). It later became the BT Research Sub-Aqua Club (BTRSAC) and then, to recognise that we now offered completely open membership, we became Sunstar Sub Aqua in 2000. The club was originally affiliated to the Sub Aqua Association (SAA) but switched to the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) in 1994. In 2009 we received a certificate in recognition of our 15 years of BSAC membership.
